The thyroid gland is a butterfly shaped gland located in the front of the neck just below the voice box. The gland makes two types of thyroid hormones: thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) which regulates the body’s metabolism. The thyroid hormone production is controlled by the ‘master’ hormone called thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) which is made by the pituitary gland located in the brain.
